ORANJESTAD (AAN):
On Sunday morning at approximately 8:44 a.m., Aruba Police received an emergency call reporting that a person had fallen from a balcony at The St. Regis Aruba Resort and was lying motionless on the ground.
Police patrol units were immediately dispatched to the scene, and the Alarm Center also sent an ambulance to the location. The first responding officers secured the area outside the lobby near the pool, where they found an unresponsive male victim lying on the ground.
Paramedics examined the individual but found no vital signs. A doctor was requested and later confirmed the death. Resort staff informed authorities that the deceased was a male tourist of American nationality staying at the hotel.
Police Central notified all relevant agencies, including Criminal Investigation (Recherche), the Forensic Technical Team (BFTO), a medical doctor, and Victim Support Services.
Initial observations indicated that the man had fallen from one of the higher floors of the resort. The area below was sealed off to prevent public access.
Subsequently, police and hotel staff proceeded to the victim’s room for further investigation. Inside the room, officers discovered a female victim with no signs of life. Paramedics were called to the room and confirmed that she had also passed away.
The hotel room was sealed, and authorities began treating the case as a suspected murder-suicide. Preliminary information suggests that the man may have killed his wife before jumping from the balcony. However, all circumstances remain under investigation. Authorities later confirmed that the deceased woman was the wife of the man found outside.
Victim Support Services provided assistance to hotel guests who witnessed the incident and offered emotional support to resort staff.
Police spokesperson Liliana Rasmijn described the case as tragic and unusual, emphasizing that a full investigation is underway. No further details, including the ages of the victims, were released at this time.
DIARIO, together with the Aruba Police Force, extends its condolences to the families of the deceased.
