The second Mini DAS Clinic, a smaller version of the Dutch Antillean Southamerican Clinic, was held at HOH Academy over the weekend. The event was organized by HOH internists Dr. Sandro Waterloo and Dr. Bert Rodenburg.

The clinic brought together professionals from various medical specialties, general practitioners, practice assistants, specialized nurses, and other healthcare workers to stay up-to-date on best practices. Recently, general practitioners and specialists reached an agreement on patient treatment and referral procedures, and the Mini DAS Clinic focused on further clarifying which patients should remain with their GP and which require specialist care. This approach aims to improve efficiency and patient well-being across Aruba.

Dr. Bert Rodenburg, internist and infectious disease specialist, explained that the agreement clarifies patient pathways between GPs and specialists. Patients can often stay with their GP for treatment when protocols allow, and after specialist care, return to their GP for follow-up, improving accessibility and reducing healthcare costs for AZV.

The event included presentations in multiple medical fields, including nephrology, orthopedics, cardiology, ophthalmology, internal medicine, and urology. Specialists and GPs discussed practical examples and clarified protocols to improve collaboration and standardize patient care.

Dr. Dennis Rasmijn, a GP, welcomed the initiative, emphasizing the value of learning from colleagues and keeping up-to-date on developments that benefit patients. Nephrologist Hardjit Kharagjitsing highlighted that the DAS Clinic serves as a bridge between primary and secondary care, enhancing collaboration and ensuring better management of both short- and long-term care for chronic patients.

The interactive clinic aimed to teach participants the protocols that ultimately enhance the efficiency and quality of healthcare in Aruba. Organizers, speakers, and the hospital team were thanked for their hard work in making the event possible.
