The Situation Is Delicate and Must Be Handled with Care,” Says STA President

Diego de Cuba, President of the STA labor union, says the situation surrounding Thiel Corporation remains fragile and must be handled with extreme caution. In an interview with Matutino DIARIO, he explained that the company’s failure to pay salaries on time forced the union to take action.

A government mediator has since intervened, and STA also submitted a detailed letter outlining its concerns. Based on this, the union met with the mediator to discuss the next steps.

According to De Cuba, two formal protocols were signed with the company. One relates to salary payments, which were due this month. While part of the payment has already been made, the remaining balance is scheduled to be paid on December 23.

The second protocol concerns pension obligations. De Cuba stated that the company committed to ensuring pension arrangements for its employees. However, to date, STA has not received any documentation confirming that an agreement has been finalized or implemented.

“We asked for copies of the agreements or at least written proof explaining how they reached an arrangement with the pension provider and what corrections would be made for the workers,” De Cuba said. “So far, we have received nothing.”

STA recently sent another letter to Thiel Corporation and Thiel Resources, again drawing attention to the unresolved issues.

De Cuba emphasized that communication is ongoing through the government mediator, and that the union’s legal team and delegates remain fully prepared. While workers are understandably angry about the ongoing uncertainty, he stressed that STA must proceed carefully.

“We have signed protocols. We can go to court at any moment, but we must be cautious. One of the union’s most important responsibilities is to protect existing jobs,” he explained.

De Cuba warned that the union fears a worst-case scenario if the situation escalates improperly.
“If something goes wrong, everyone could lose,” he said.

For that reason, he told union delegates that the matter must be handled ‘with velvet gloves’—with tact, strategy, and prudence.

“We must be very careful and thoughtful. Taking the matter to court at the wrong time could damage the company beyond repair, and then regret would come too late,” De Cuba concluded.
