During the first 356 days of 2025, the Aruba Fire Department (Brandweer Aruba) received a total of 674 emergency calls, according to recent information shared by Francis Toussaint in an interview with DIARIO.
Of these calls, 78 were building fires. One of the most impactful incidents involved a woman who became trapped in her home and tragically passed away. Another serious case involved a fellow firefighter from Brandweer Aruba.
Regarding vehicle fires, the department responded to 36 calls, while 166 calls were related to rescue assistance, including ambulance support and traffic accidents. The largest category was 394 wildland or mondi fires.
Toussaint highlighted that these wildland fire numbers include cases throughout the year, including the Dera Gay celebration period. However, due to the unusually high number of fires during Dera Gay, Brandweer Aruba prepared a separate report specifically for those incidents. He stated that if all Dera Gay–related fires were counted, the total number would be significantly higher.
Overall, Toussaint confirmed that 2025 saw 130 fewer emergency calls than 2024. He attributed this reduction to increased public awareness efforts by Brandweer Aruba, including active communication on social media, community safety talks, and educational programs in schools across the island.
