STA Union Sends Urgent Letter Requesting Meeting with Minister Wendrick CiciliaUnion Leader Diego de Cuba Speaks Out

Diego de Cuba, president of the STA union, revealed during an interview with Matutino DIARIO that the union has sent an urgent letter—before the end of last week—to Minister Wendrick Cicilia. The letter expresses concerns about what they describe as a disproportionate salary being proposed for the new director of Queen Beatrix International Airport.

De Cuba questioned whether Aruba truly lacks local talent capable of leading the airport:
“If we believe there is no child of the land who can manage the airport, then we are completely mistaken.”

The STA also requested a formal meeting with Minister Cicilia. According to the union, they had already written to James Fazio, the current director of the Aruba Airport Authority (AAA), regarding the matter, but have not received any response. The letter was also forwarded to the minister, who likewise has not reacted.

De Cuba emphasized that airport employees were shocked to read the reported salary for the new director, calling it excessive and inconsistent with existing laws in Aruba.

He added:
“Can someone not live on 25,000 or 27,000 florins a month? Do you really need 100,000 florins—even if taxes take more than half? I don’t believe that.”

The STA is now urging the minister to grant them a meeting as soon as possible, noting that many airport workers are upset and awaiting answers.
