Public Prosecutor Issues Summons in Police Shooting That Killed Ayden Lanoy

After eight long months, the Public Prosecutor’s Office has concluded its investigation into the police shooting that claimed the life of 19-year-old Ayden C. Lanoy. The case, known as “Caso Caret,” will now move to court, with official summons issued to the two police officers involved.

The incident occurred in the early hours of Sunday, February 9, 2025, around 5:00 a.m., when police pursued a silver Toyota Vitz in the Bubali area. According to the police, the vehicle was driving recklessly and without lights. Despite signals to stop, the driver continued, leading to a chase that ended in Madiki Kavel, near the local recreation complex.

What happened next remains the focus of public outrage—approximately 20 bullets were fired at the car, killing young Ayden Lanoy, who was unarmed. Security camera footage later revealed that Lanoy’s vehicle lights were, in fact, on and that he appeared to be driving normally before the shooting.

The community reacted with anger and disbelief, questioning the level of force used against a young man who posed no visible threat. Emergency responders confirmed that Lanoy showed no vital signs upon arrival. He was described as a hardworking and respectful young man, employed at Save More in Boegoeroei, and known for his musical talent—having participated in Voz-I-Landia Escolar 2019, where he performed a song by artist Jeon.

After months of investigation, spokesperson Ann Angela of the Public Prosecutor’s Office announced that the case file is complete and has been shared with the defense. The two officers have been formally charged with complicity in manslaughter.

The case will be presented before the Court of First Instance on Friday, November 7, 2025, during a preliminary hearing (regiezitting). The session will determine whether further investigation is necessary before proceeding to a full trial.

The family of Ayden Lanoy has been informed of the latest developments through their legal representatives.
