The Escuela Profesional Básico (EPB) in Oranjestad has achieved a historic milestone for education in Aruba with the introduction of Fix-it Papiamento, a completely new, digital, interactive, and modern educational method in the island’s native language, Papiamento.
Until now, there has been no digital educational material in Papiamento. According to Erwin Lopez, Director of EPB, the traditional “Cristal” textbooks were used for teaching Papiamento but were outdated. Now, students will have access to this innovative digital platform via laptops, developed in collaboration with a company from the Netherlands.
Lopez emphasized that this method will be available in all secondary schools across Aruba, and it aims to open new educational opportunities for students facing difficulties with the Dutch language. The goal is to help students progress in their education and eventually transition to vocational training and employment, enabling them to earn more diplomas and enter the job market more easily.
