University of Aruba Sees Stable Enrollment Growth for New Academic Year

As the new academic year begins, newly appointed Rector of the University of Aruba, Sue-Ann Lee, shared encouraging updates about the institution’s steady growth. Over the past three years, the university has maintained just over 800 students across its various programs, reflecting a modest but stable increase.

While some programs have grown slightly more than others, overall enrollment has remained consistent. Rector Lee emphasized that this stability shows there is a continued need for local academic programs, ensuring that Aruban students have opportunities to study on the island.

For the past four consecutive years, enrollment has remained above 800 students despite the limited number of available bachelor’s programs. Certain master’s programs are offered every two years, attracting additional groups of students, while the Academic Foundation Year consistently draws between 80 and 100 students annually.

Lee noted that the university is currently at its optimal capacity given its facilities and resources. “We cannot expand indefinitely, so it is important to maintain balance,” she said. She also stressed the importance of quality, explaining that as demand grows, the university must strategically prepare to ensure excellence in education.

Faculty development remains a priority, particularly in innovative fields such as artificial intelligence, to ensure that the University of Aruba continues to provide high-quality education for the island’s future leaders.
