The court has announced that the trial for the two police officers, M.V. and R.G.D., accused of fatally shooting 19-year-old Ayden Cj Lanoy on February 9, 2025, will begin on February 20, 2026.

During Friday’s session, the judge rejected requests from the defense attorneys and the prosecutor for further investigation, confirming that sufficient forensic and video evidence had already been examined by the Dutch Forensic Institute (NFI).

The hearing drew a large crowd outside the courthouse in Oranjestad, with strong emotional support for the victim’s family. Extra security measures were in place, and the judge urged calm during the proceedings.

According to the prosecution, the officers intentionally fired several shots at Lanoy and his vehicle, resulting in his death. The case has deeply affected the Aruban community and sparked ongoing public debate about police conduct and accountability.

The full trial is expected to last between two to three days, with closing statements and a date for sentencing to be set afterward.
