ORANJESTAD (AAN): During the farewell meeting for the TEAMARU delegation set to compete in the IV South American Youth Games, the Aruba Chess Federation was warmly welcomed, as they will have athletes participating in an Olympic cycle event for the first time. Although chess is not an Olympic sport, Panama, the host country for Panama 2026, invited it as a demonstration sport.
After discussions with the Aruba Olympic Committee (COA), it was decided to seize this incredible opportunity to expand TEAMARU by adding two young chess players to the delegation. Male athlete Mohit Sharma and female athlete Sylvi Cabral, coached by Jose Pesqueria, will compete in the rapid and blitz categories at Panama 2026.
COA wishes the chess team the best of luck as they make history by being the first to represent Aruba in chess at the Panama 2026 Games.
