Stevig Ouderschap, the free support program for new parents run by Stichting Wit Gele Kruis in Aruba, is marking its 15th anniversary. More than 100 parents have benefited from the service this year, according to a report published by 24ora on October 16.
Support begins in a baby’s first weeks
Maryla Solognier of Wit Gele Kruis told the outlet that the program starts when a baby is six to eight weeks old. Support can continue until the child is between 18 months and two years old.
Families are identified through a questionnaire at baby clinics. Depending on their needs, they receive home visits every three months, the report said.
Two nurses serve three areas
Two nurses currently carry out visits in Oranjestad, Dakota and San Nicolas. Wit Gele Kruis wants to expand its staff so the program can reach more families, according to 24ora.
How parents can ask about the service
Parents interested in the program can speak with nurses during routine visits to their baby clinic. The guidance and support are provided free of charge.
