ARUBA – In 1971, a murder at the Sheraton Hotel attracted significant attention. The case involved two cooks: one identified only as Rene, and the other named Rohrer.
Rohrer, a 25-year-old Swiss national, arrived in Aruba October 1, 1971, for employment at the hotel. Shortly after his arrival, conflicts developed between the two men. On November 4, 1971, Rene reported that Rohrer had been kidnapped, with ransom demands of 20,000 florins.
Police investigation revealed inconsistencies in Rene’s account. Rohrer’s vehicle remained at the hotel, and keys were found on the premises. Blood stains were discovered, eventually leading authorities to locate Rohrer’s body in a freezer within an abandoned storage area. Evidence indicated he had been killed violently approximately one day earlier. Rene was arrested and subsequently confessed to the murder.
