Prime Minister Eman Stresses Importance of Reliable Partners in the Dutch Kingdom

Aruba’s Prime Minister, Mike Eman, emphasized the importance of having reliable partners within the Kingdom of the Netherlands during his recent visit to The Hague. Eman met with several prominent Dutch politicians, including Olger van Dijk, Chairman of the Permanent Committee for Kingdom Affairs in the Tweede Kamer (Dutch Parliament).

Eman highlighted that Van Dijk is not only a long-time friend but also someone who understands Aruba’s needs and aspirations. Having a committee leader who knows the island well is seen as vital for advancing Aruba’s interests within the Kingdom framework.

One of the main topics discussed was the proposal for a Kingdom Investment Fund (Koningrijksfonds). This fund would involve Aruba, Curaçao, Sint Maarten, and the BES islands, serving both as an investment tool for education, culture, and community development, and as a financial buffer for unforeseen challenges.

The concept envisions redirecting funds currently allocated to debt repayments and COVID-related financing into this Kingdom fund, ensuring the money is reinvested back into improving quality of life across the islands.

Eman also held talks with Paul Rosenmöller, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Kingdom Relations, who expressed interest and support for the proposal. Both discussions were described as constructive steps toward securing broader political backing in the Netherlands.

According to Eman, progress on this idea—originally part of the AVP-Futuro party program since 2023—marks an important step toward building a more constructive partnership within the Kingdom, with Aruba’s long-term ambitions clearly on the table.
