Oranjestad to Launch “OBIZ: Oranjestad Business Investment Zone

ORANJESTAD (AAN): The Oranjestad Investors Group (OIG) has announced the establishment of a new legal entity — OBIZ (Oranjestad Business Investment Zone) — following the signing of a Letter of Intent (LOI) between the Government of Aruba and the group of investors. The agreement represents a mutual commitment to invest in the future of Aruba’s capital city, Oranjestad.

The LOI marks a shared starting point where both the government and investors emphasize the importance of Oranjestad’s development. The creation of the OBIZ foundation will enable investors to work in a more structured way, supported by the community and strategic partners.

“Elton Arends, representing the Oranjestad Investors Group, stated, ‘The signing of this LOI confirms not only our shared intentions but also our responsibility to contribute to Oranjestad’s growth. By formalizing OIG’s private-sector initiative into OBIZ, we are continuing our commitment to projects that benefit both the downtown area and the entire island.’”

OBIZ will focus on economic development, improved quality of life, safety, and the preservation of Oranjestad’s cultural and historical heritage. The foundation will collaborate closely with local businesses, community organizations, and strategic partners such as the Government of Aruba.

The OIG initiative began in 2022 when a group of active investors along Wilhelminastraat—including the Harms and Koeman families, AIB, and Atlas Risk Solutions—joined forces to enhance the area. What started as practical improvements like lighting, cleaning, and maintenance has since evolved into a broader collaboration.

With growing participation from other property owners and alignment with government development plans, the initiative has expanded its focus to the entire city of Oranjestad. OBIZ’s official establishment will ensure transparency, solid management, and opportunities for all stakeholders in the Oranjestad Investment Zone to unite and contribute to the city’s future.
