On Tuesday morning, September 9, the official opening of the Parliamentary Year 2025–2026 took place in Aruba. The solemn ceremony was held in Parliament, where Governor Alfonso Boekhoudt formally declared the new legislative year open. This marks the 40th Parliamentary Year for the country, a significant milestone in Aruba’s democratic journey.

In his balanced address, the Governor reflected on the realities facing the community. He emphasized that although Aruba is on the path to recovery, challenges remain. Only by working together with a central focus on advancing the country can Aruba achieve a more sustainable and prosperous future.

The Governor also noted that this new parliamentary year presents many challenges, particularly in light of global geopolitical developments. However, he expressed optimism that it can be highly fruitful and positive for Aruba, with key decisions expected on financial matters and national policy.

The year ahead will test the wisdom, patience, and unity of Aruba’s parliamentarians. The more united they are, the more they will be able to accomplish for the country.
