ORANJESTAD (AAN) – More than 5,000 Colombian nationals have successfully regularized their legal status in Aruba through the government’s migration regularization program, according to Colombian Consul Gustavo Serrano Amaya.

Speaking to DIARIO, Serrano Amaya said information provided by Aruba’s immigration department (DIMAS) shows that approximately 4,500 Colombians regularized their immigration status last year, while another 500 people received residence permits for the first time this year.

The consul explained that the next step for those who have regularized their status is registering in Aruba’s official census, allowing them to access services provided by the AZV health insurance system. He described healthcare coverage as one of the most significant benefits of the regularization process.

Serrano Amaya noted that some Colombians still need to regularize their immigration status. Some arrived after the special regularization process had ended, while others were unable to complete the required procedures.

Although the number of unresolved cases is much lower than in previous years, the consul acknowledged that not every application will qualify for approval under Aruba’s current immigration regulations, meaning some individuals may ultimately have to leave the island.
