Minister Says Aruba Is Preparing for the Best High Season in Its History

This week, Minister of Tourism, Labor and Transport Wendrick Cicilia, together with key stakeholders, held an informational session for Aruba’s Immigration Department in preparation for what is expected to be the strongest high season the island has ever seen.

Minister Cicilia recently visited the airport to assess its operational readiness during this critical period. “Everything we have done so far is aimed at ensuring Aruba experiences a highly successful high season, and that requires proper preparation,” he stated. Among the key improvements highlighted were the opening of Taxiway Golf, and the addition of a sixth security lane to improve passenger flow for both locals and international visitors. The minister emphasized that enhancing the experience for travelers and residents remains a top priority. Additional reinforcements have also been allocated to the Immigration Department.

On Monday morning, representatives from the Ministry of Tourism, Ministry of Justice, Aruba Tourism Authority, and Aruba Airport Authority took time to recognize Immigration employees for their dedicated work. Immigration, the minister noted, represents Aruba’s first impression to arriving visitors and plays a crucial role in maintaining safety and security on the island. During his airport visit, the minister heard concerns from staff and provided new materials to support them throughout the high season.

The session also covered upcoming projects aimed at increasing efficiency and modernizing airport procedures. While Aruba already uses E-Gates, some manual steps are still required. In collaboration with the Ministry of Justice, Immigration, Ministry of Tourism, and the Airport Authority, discussions are underway to introduce further innovations—such as lowering the minimum age for E-Gate use, allowing families with young children to pass through more quickly. The process of scanning boarding passes, which currently takes around 15 seconds, is also being reviewed for potential elimination to reduce processing time.

All these improvements, the minister stressed, are designed to ensure a smoother airport experience and greater passenger satisfaction during the island’s busiest season.
