Meteorologists are closely tracking a weather disturbance in the Caribbean Sea that could soon develop into Tropical Storm Melissa, the next named storm of the 2025 Atlantic hurricane season.

According to the National Hurricane Center (NHC), a tropical wave over the eastern Caribbean is producing strong showers and thunderstorms as it moves westward at 15 to 20 miles per hour toward the central Caribbean. Conditions are expected to become more favorable for development, with an 80% chance of formation within seven days.

Although the system’s exact path remains uncertain, meteorologists warn that portions of the ABC Islands—Aruba, Bonaire, and Curaçao—may experience heavy rainfall and gusty winds in the coming days.

Experts say the storm’s future strength and direction depend on how quickly it develops. A faster intensification could steer it north toward Hispaniola, while a slower-developing system might continue westward toward Central America, where warmer waters could help it strengthen into a major hurricane.

For now, residents across the Caribbean, including Aruba, are advised to stay alert and monitor official updates from the NHC and local weather services.
