ORANJESTAD / ABC Islands (AAN) — A helicopter evacuation injured crew Caribbean operation was carried out early Monday morning after the Maritime Operations Center (MOC) of the Dutch Caribbean Coast Guard received an emergency call from a cargo vessel sailing near the ABC Islands.
The distress call reported that a crew member on board had suddenly become seriously ill and required urgent medical assistance. Coast Guard operators confirmed that Curaçao was the nearest island and immediately consulted a physician from CITRO regarding the condition of the patient.
According to the report, fellow crew members found the individual unresponsive on the deck and began providing first aid while contacting emergency services. After reviewing the details, the CITRO physician determined that the situation was critical and requested an immediate medical evacuation.
A Coast Guard helicopter was dispatched and successfully hoisted the patient from the cargo vessel in a coordinated rescue operation. The helicopter then returned to Curaçao, landing at Hato International Airport (CUR), where an ambulance was already on standby.
The patient was transported directly to Curaçao Medical Center (CMC) for further treatment. No additional details about the patient’s condition were released due to medical confidentiality.
