After weeks of heat and drought, Aruba finally saw heavy rain over the weekend. The downpour was welcome—but it also exposed persistent issues with road conditions and drainage across the island.
In several areas, including Bubali and even streets near tourist accommodations, damaged infrastructure prevented proper water flow, causing localized flooding. High-traffic roads were especially affected, disrupting transportation and damaging vehicles.
Residents are calling for swift action. Authorities are expected to work with the Department of Public Works (DOW) to implement durable solutions that improve drainage and road safety. While the public continues to do its part, there’s growing pressure on the relevant agencies to ensure safe, functional roads for everyone.
