On Thursday morning, Parliamentarian Gino Goeloe of the FUTURO party addressed the escalating topic of vaping in Aruba. He described the situation as an alarming problem, highlighting the large quantity of young people using vapes and the fact that users are getting younger.
According to Goeloe, the issue is compounded by users mixing vaping devices with illicit drugs. “Not only vaping, but mixing this with illicit drugs,” Goeloe stated. He cited scientific studies confirming that vaping causes damage to the lungs. The parliamentarian noted that while a tobacco law exists, it must be reinforced regarding vaping. He pointed out that currently, a young person can go to any supermarket and buy a vape for 25 florins, a system where the product is sold without any regulation or control.
Goeloe emphasized that it is crucial to provide education in schools regarding the damage of vaping. He is currently collaborating with DVG, FADA, Stichting HUNTO, and two specialists from Colombia to work on a plan. This proposal is set to be presented to the Parliament of Aruba and the Minister responsible for public health. Goeloe concluded that this is a problem that must be taken seriously and requires a complete plan to address it effectively.
