Five-Year Prison Sentence for Venezuelan Group in Drug Smuggling Case

VIEWS

A Venezuelan group has been sentenced to five years in prison for their involvement in the possession of a large shipment of drugs, including 468 kilograms of marijuana and 104 kilograms of cocaine. The group, identified as J.B.R., J.P.G., A.H.A., and R.J.G., was apprehended by the Coast Guard on February 23, 2025, after a drug shipment was intercepted.

Initially, the prosecutor had demanded a seven-year sentence, but the court ultimately reduced the sentence to five years. The group was found guilty of possessing the drugs and gasoline, which were intended for illegal distribution. The drugs were confiscated in 23 bundles, with 12 jerry cans of gasoline also seized.

The court concluded that the group was part of a drug trafficking operation, and despite their claims of innocence, the evidence against them was overwhelming. The drugs, intended for sale, were linked to criminal activity and posed significant health risks.
