ORANJESTAD – The Government of Aruba has introduced a new opportunity for civil servants to leave public service voluntarily before retirement age, known as the Early Retirement Aruba Government scheme (VUT).
The regulation will be in effect from April 15 to June 15, 2026, and aims to reduce government personnel costs. The decision was approved at the beginning of April and officially published in the Afkondigingsblad.
Civil servants can submit a request during this period to participate in the Early Retirement Aruba Government program. Under specific conditions, they may receive special benefits as part of the arrangement.
Personnel costs make up a significant portion of the government’s budget, which is why measures like this are being implemented more frequently to create financial flexibility.
This is not a mandatory dismissal program but a voluntary option. However, depending on how many employees choose to participate, it could impact government capacity and service delivery.
The voluntary exit scheme has been used before and is now being reintroduced as part of the government’s broader financial policy to manage expenses and maintain stability through the Early Retirement Aruba Government initiative.
