A Dakota air-gun incident led police to arrest a man accused of waving a weapon and pointing it at people on Guyabastraat early Tuesday morning.
Police approached vehicle with caution
The object initially appeared to be a firearm that might contain live ammunition. According to English 24ora, officers located the man inside a vehicle near a bakery in Dakota and believed he was heavily intoxicated.
Police found the weapon in the vehicle, arrested the man and took the object into custody for examination.
Forensic review identified an air gun
The Forensic Team later determined that the confiscated weapon was an air gun rather than a firearm using live ammunition. The source reported that the man was subsequently released while the air gun remained in police custody.
Authorities noted that threatening people by waving or pointing a weapon can still be punishable regardless of the weapon’s type. No injuries were reported in the source account.
