SOUTH WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. — The Little League World Series semifinals feature four teams, but none have captured attention quite like the team from Connecticut. Representing the Metro Region, Fairfield’s club has outscored opponents 26-5 in four games, using baserunning strategies that are both clever and relentless.
In Little League, runners can advance until the ball is returned to the pitcher on the mound with the catcher in position. Connecticut exploits this by lingering between bases, forcing defensive pressure while teammates advance. Against South Dakota, twelve consecutive hitters reached base in one inning, turning a close game into a 13-1 rout.
Connecticut will face Nevada in Saturday’s U.S. championship, with Nevada’s manager TJ Fechser noting that defense will be key to slowing the aggressive basepaths strategy. Connecticut’s ace, Luca Pellegrini, known for his pinpoint fastballs, is expected to start.
On the international side, Taiwan has dominated the winner’s bracket, shutting out Mexico and Aruba while beating Venezuela 7-3. Taiwan’s pitching depth and defensive focus make scoring against them a challenge. Aruba, in its first international final, seeks a rematch after losing 4-0 to Taiwan earlier in the week, relying on leadoff batter Anthony Santos and hours of defensive preparation.
The winners of the U.S. and international brackets will meet Sunday afternoon for the tournament championship at Lamade Stadium.
