ORANJESTAD (AAN): Carnival youth safety awareness Aruba is the main focus of an ongoing awareness campaign led by the Comisión Visión Pedagógico Aruba, according to commission member Yvonne Bermudez.
In an interview with DIARIO, Bermudez explained that the campaign aims to help young people understand what they may be exposed to during Carnival activities. Although the fast-approaching Carnival season limited the expansion of the campaign, the commission continues to promote key safety messages.
Bermudez noted that the initiative began three years ago with a focus on children and later expanded to include adolescents. The goal of Carnival youth safety awareness Aruba is to encourage parents and guardians to prepare their children ahead of time instead of reacting after incidents occur.
Parents are urged to have clear conversations with their children about expectations, behavior, and boundaries well before Carnival events begin. Bermudez stressed that Carnival youth safety awareness Aruba is not only relevant during Carnival but throughout the entire year.
Young people may be exposed to alcohol, peer pressure, and risky situations during festivities, Bermudez warned. She emphasized the importance of teaching youth not to accept everything offered to them and to remain conscious of their surroundings and decisions.
Additional advice includes encouraging young people to manage their own money responsibly, be aware of the friends they spend time with, and reflect on their intentions when attending events. Carnival youth safety awareness Aruba also calls on parents to model responsible behavior, as children often follow examples rather than instructions.
Bermudez concluded by reminding parents that setting consistent values and demonstrating responsible conduct is key to protecting youth during Carnival and beyond.
