On Sunday night around 9:00 p.m., police received multiple reports of a traffic accident involving a pedestrian who was seriously injured. The incident occurred near the intersection of John G. Emanstraat and Waterweg, close to the main office of Island Finance.
A patrol unit from the Playa Police Station arrived quickly at the scene and found an elderly man lying on the ground, surrounded by several bystanders who were attempting to assist him.
A Mitsubishi Lancer sedan, identified as the vehicle involved in the collision, was stopped on the northbound side of the road. The driver remained at the scene, cooperated fully, and waited for police as required by law.
The driver briefly told the press that he was not speeding and that the situation happened suddenly when the elderly man crossed the road unexpectedly from the north side toward the south. According to the driver, it appeared that the pedestrian may not have noticed the approaching vehicle.
Paramedics arrived shortly after, assessed the victim at the scene, and then transported him to the Emergency Department at the hospital for further medical treatment due to injuries sustained to his leg.
The incident remains under investigation.
