ORANJESTAD (AAN): On Monday evening, an alarm was triggered for a fire at the newly opened Burger King branch located on Kamerlingh Onnestraat near Playa, which shares its location with a KFC Restaurant and Sayo Supermarket.
The Alarm Center was notified, and two fire trucks were dispatched to the location. Police also arrived at the scene. Upon arrival, they observed a significant amount of smoke emanating from the kitchen area.
At that point, all individuals were evacuated from the building. Initial efforts were made to extinguish the fire, including attempts by some customers to assist. However, the fire spread quickly, leading to the decision to abandon the area for safety reasons.
When firefighters arrived with two units, the fire was already fully engulfing the kitchen. They took immediate action to control the flames and prevent further spread. The building sustained significant damage, primarily from smoke and water, in addition to the fire. NV Elmar personnel also arrived to disconnect the electricity.
The exact cause of the fire has not yet been disclosed, but an investigation is underway by both the Fire Department and the Aruba Police Judicial Authority.
