Oranjestad, Aruba – May & June 2025 — Boardwalk Boutique Hotel Aruba proudly demonstrated its commitment to wellness, teamwork, and community by participating in two of the island’s most celebrated sporting events: the 12 Hours of Aruba Mountain Bike Relay and the KLM Aruba Marathon.
Pedaling with Purpose: Boardwalk Excels in 12-Hour MTB Relay
In a thrilling test of endurance and spirit, the Boardwalk Aruba sports team competed in the annual 12 Hours of Aruba—a high-energy mountain bike relay that drew 250 riders into teams of six, riding from noon to midnight through scenic trails.
Boardwalk fielded two full teams—one all-male and one all-female—totaling 12 dedicated cyclists. As a Gold sponsor, the hotel added a refreshing twist by handing out fruit popsicles to participants, spreading cheer and cooling down the competition.
“Our number one reason for participating is to have fun and enjoy Aruba’s beautiful outdoors,” said co-owner Stephanie Rooijakkers. “It perfectly reflects our love for nature, active living, and local support.”
Pushing Boundaries: Supporting Inclusive Sports at the KLM Aruba Marathon
Boardwalk extended its passion for sports beyond competition by supporting Beyond Sports Limits, a local nonprofit that empowers athletes with disabilities. In the 2025 KLM Aruba Marathon, the hotel sponsored athlete Luuk Loo, who heroically pushed Disjondrick Jacobs in a wheelchair for the entire 42K distance.
Starting at 3:00 AM, the duo completed the marathon in just under four hours, inspiring onlookers and proving that barriers can be broken with determination and support. Boardwalk contributed 1,000 AWG to help fund the initiative.
“It’s not just about sport—it’s about changing lives,” a Boardwalk spokesperson emphasized. “We’re proud to stand behind Luuk and Disjondrick’s incredible journey.”
Team Spirit on Display in 5K Fun Run
On June 7, twelve staff members from departments like Front Desk, Engineering, Maintenance, HR, Accounting, and The Coco Café united for the 5K Fun Run and Walk during the KLM Marathon.
The outcome showcased the team’s vitality:
-
All 12 team members completed the race
-
Most finished in under 30 minutes
-
Segundo Muñoz Chiki clocked the fastest time: 24:56
The event doubled as a team-building experience and a powerful testament to Boardwalk’s workplace culture rooted in wellness and motivation.
