Despite the involvement of four different labor unions, Arubus employees remain without a renewed Collective Labor Agreement (CAO), leading to growing disappointment and frustration among workers.
Information received by DIARIO indicates that Arubus employees have been waiting for years for improvements to their working conditions and proper regulation of their employment status. Although their case has already passed through four unions, none have been able to make meaningful progress or secure concrete results.
So far, workers have not even been granted a meeting with the new Minister of Transport to present their concerns. Employees point out that, like other government workers, they made financial sacrifices during difficult periods such as the COVID-19 pandemic. Today, they continue to struggle with a high cost of living, heavy tax burdens, and rising expenses, while fulfilling their duties as working citizens.
The job of an Arubus driver is physically demanding. Many drivers suffer from back problems after years of service, with several work-related factors contributing to their physical strain. According to a reliable source, there are currently four drivers who are medically unfit for work due to serious back conditions. Their health has deteriorated to the point where they are effectively unable to continue driving buses.
Adding to the situation, drivers are reportedly operating buses that are in poor condition. There are also serious coordination issues between two key departments responsible for fleet maintenance, further complicating daily operations.
DIARIO attempted to obtain official information but was informed that Arubus currently has no director. The previous director reportedly retired last year with a settlement, and no replacement has been appointed since. Efforts to contact a public relations representative were also unsuccessful.
