The Aruban feature film “E Bruha, Bruha” has won the prestigious Kadushi di Oro award at the 25th edition of the Krioyo Film Festival 2025 in Curaçao, marking a major achievement for Aruba’s film industry.

The award announcement was made in the presence of Curaçao Prime Minister Gilmar Pisas, highlighting the regional significance of the festival and the recognition earned by the Aruban production.

Produced and directed by Desiree Croes, the film made a strong impact throughout the festival, leading the jury to select it as Best Film of the Festival. In addition to the top honor, E Bruha, Bruha also received awards for Best Supporting Actress and Best Director.

The Best Supporting Actress award was presented to Yvonne Tromp for her powerful portrayal of the grandmother “Dudu,” while Desiree Croes was recognized as Best Director for a Feature Film.

On behalf of Berea Production, Desiree Croes expressed her gratitude to the people of Aruba and Curaçao, as well as audiences in the Netherlands, for their strong support. Special appreciation was also extended to the Aruban media, including Telearuba, and to Semi Chahmi and his crew for their outstanding contributions to the film.

More than 2,000 Arubans attended cinema screenings of E Bruha, Bruha, reflecting the film’s strong local reception. This marks the 12th film produced by Desiree Croes and the second time the Kadushi di Oro award has been brought to Aruba. The first was awarded last year for her film “E Berguensa.”

E Bruha, Bruha is based on Desiree Croes’ book “No Mas” and tells the story of three women — a grandmother, mother, and daughter — fighting to protect their traditional cunucu home from a corrupt national park director who attempts to seize the property and convert it into an Airbnb.
