Aruba hosts New Caledonia President as part of ongoing international cooperation efforts within the European Union framework.
As part of the 21st Overseas Countries and Territories – European Union Forum, Aruba welcomed an official visit from Alcide Ponga, President of New Caledonia, at the Bestuurskantoor.
New Caledonia is a French territory located in the South Pacific Ocean, consisting of several islands with a population of nearly 300,000 people.
Prime Minister Mike Eman received the delegation and held discussions focused on areas of mutual interest, including cooperation within the framework of Overseas Countries and Territories linked to the European Union.
During the meeting, both parties exchanged views on key topics such as economic development, tourism, and sustainability. Special attention was given to shared challenges faced by island territories, particularly balancing economic growth with environmental protection.
The Aruba hosts New Caledonia President visit also highlighted opportunities for knowledge sharing and collaboration. President Ponga expressed admiration for Aruba’s progress, especially in tourism and sustainable development, noting the potential for mutual learning between both regions.
As part of the visit, the delegation also experienced Aruba’s scenic beauty from the panoramic view at the Bestuurskantoor, showcasing the island’s unique appeal.
The relationship between Aruba and New Caledonia is built on mutual respect and a history of collaboration within the OCT framework. In the past, Prime Minister Mike Eman, in his role as President of OCTA, visited New Caledonia, strengthening ties between the two territories.
This visit reflects continued efforts to enhance international relations and promote constructive cooperation among OCT-EU member countries.
