Aruba hospital electronic patient system
Aruba’s hospital celebrates a historic moment with the launch of a new electronic patient system, marking a major step forward in improving healthcare data management and patient care.
At exactly 12:00 p.m. on Friday, the Horacio Oduber Hospital (HOH) officially went LIVE with its new electronic patient record system, known as HiX. The launch was celebrated during a ceremony attended by Prime Minister Mike Eman, Minister of Public Health, Social Affairs and Elderly Care Mervin Wyatt-Ras, members of the hospital’s board and management, and representatives from several partner organizations.
The moment was marked with a festive countdown ceremony, symbolizing the start of a new phase in healthcare technology at the hospital.
Major Step Forward in Healthcare Technology
The new system represents an important milestone in the modernization of healthcare services in Aruba. According to hospital officials, the implementation of the HiX electronic patient system will help optimize data processes and improve the quality and efficiency of patient care.
The system aims to create a more integrated and standardized healthcare platform, allowing medical professionals to access and manage patient data more effectively.
Hospital leadership expects the platform to improve documentation, registration of medical information, and data-driven healthcare decisions, which will ultimately enhance patient safety and treatment quality.
Project Began in 2024
According to Jacco Vroegop, President of the Board of Directors, the project began in 2024 under the internal program ARISE (Aruba Integrated Healthcare Systems).
The hospital worked closely with experts from the Dutch healthcare technology company ChipSoft, the developer of the HiX platform, along with consultants from Furore in the Netherlands who assisted throughout the implementation process.
The contract with ChipSoft was signed in January 2025, after which the hospital began a lengthy preparation process that included planning, testing, and extensive training for staff.
Extensive Training and Preparation
Implementing the new system required more than a year of preparation, including intensive training sessions for hospital staff.
Approximately 200 employees participated in training programs designed to help healthcare professionals adapt to the new digital system.
Departments across the hospital—including clinical care units, radiology, finance, nutrition services, and the blood bank—were integrated into the platform to ensure a fully connected healthcare system.
In October 2025, the hospital conducted a full system test day to ensure everything functioned correctly before going live.
At one point, 25 consultants from ChipSoft and Furore were on-site simultaneously to assist with training and system preparation.
Secure Data Infrastructure
To ensure the security and accessibility of patient information, HOH also partnered with SETAR N.V., Aruba’s telecommunications company, to host the hospital’s data center.
This infrastructure ensures that patient information is stored securely and remains accessible whenever needed.
Patient Portal Access
The HiX system will also introduce a patient portal, allowing patients to access their medical information directly.
Through this portal, patients will be able to:
-
View their medical records
-
Check appointments
-
Access test results
-
Manage healthcare information from their phone or computer
Hospital officials say instructions will soon be provided to patients on how to activate and use the portal.
A Historic Step for Healthcare in Aruba
Hospital leadership described the launch as a historic moment for Aruba’s healthcare system, highlighting the dedication and teamwork required to implement such a large project.
The hospital also asked patients to remain patient and understanding during the transition period as staff continue adapting to the new system.
According to HOH, the new digital platform will help the hospital continue innovating and improving accessible, high-quality healthcare for Aruba’s population.
