Aruba Parliament President Marlon Sneek, Prime Minister Mike Eman, Minister of Tourism, Transport and Labour Wendrick Cicilia and Colombian Consul Gustavo Serrano Amaya delivered remarks during the official ceremony.

The event continued with cultural performances celebrating Colombian music, dance and traditions.

Colombian Community Recognized

Sneek said Colombia’s independence represents the values of freedom, democracy and sovereignty.

He also recognized the contribution made by members of the Colombian community to Aruba’s economic, social and cultural development.

According to Sneek, Aruba and Colombia share a strong relationship built on friendship, cooperation and mutual respect.

Prime Minister Eman reflected on the meaning of independence and said freedom should be viewed as the beginning of a shared responsibility rather than the end of a historical process.

He said societies must continue working toward fairness and inclusion so that people feel seen, heard and valued.

Eman also noted that the relationship between Aruba and Colombia existed long before the establishment of their modern political institutions.

For generations, the Caribbean Sea served as a connection between communities, supporting trade, cultural exchange and human relationships.

Strong Historical and Economic Connections

The prime minister thanked members of Aruba’s Colombian community for their daily contribution to the island.

He highlighted their work in healthcare, construction, commerce, education and numerous other sectors.

Minister Cicilia said Aruba and Colombia share a relationship based on cooperation, friendship and trust.

He noted that thousands of Colombians have chosen Aruba as their home and have become an essential part of the island’s community.

Cicilia also highlighted the direct air connections between Aruba and several Colombian cities.

These routes support tourism, commerce and travel between the two countries.

He reaffirmed the Government of Aruba’s commitment to creating a society where residents can progress with opportunity, security and a good quality of life.

Diplomatic Relations Highlighted

Consul Serrano Amaya reflected on Colombia’s independence and the sacrifices made by those who helped establish the country as a free and sovereign nation.

He said freedom must be strengthened through democracy, justice, respect for human rights and commitment to the common good.

The consul also noted that the celebration coincided with the 200th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Colombia and the Kingdom of the Netherlands.

Those relations have developed through dialogue, mutual respect and cooperation in commerce, culture, education, security and sustainable development.

Serrano Amaya thanked the Government and people of Aruba for warmly receiving the Colombian community.

He said many Colombians have found opportunities to build better lives in Aruba while contributing their knowledge, work and dedication to the island’s development.

Colombian Navy Ship Visits Aruba

One of the most notable moments of the celebration was the presence of the Colombian Navy vessel ARC 24 de Julio.

The modern ship was constructed entirely in Colombia and selected Aruba as its first international destination.

Officials described the visit as a symbol of the friendship and cooperation connecting Aruba and Colombia.

Following the formal ceremony, attendees enjoyed traditional music, folklore, urban dance, poetry and other artistic presentations highlighting Colombia’s cultural diversity.

The Independence Day celebration demonstrated the lasting Aruba Colombia Friendship and the shared commitment to strengthening historical, cultural and economic ties for the benefit of both communities.
