Aruba Airport Authority Introduces Enhanced Passenger Processing for U.S.-Bound Travelers

The Aruba Airport Authority (AAA) has officially launched Enhanced Passenger Processing (EPP) at the U.S. Pre-Clearance facility at Queen Beatrix International Airport, introducing biometric verification to streamline departures for U.S. citizens traveling back to the United States.

The initiative was implemented in partnership with U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) and biometric technology provider iProov. Following the completion of hardware installation earlier this week, CBP began processing U.S. travelers using the new system on Tuesday.

Enhanced Passenger Processing uses facial biometric technology to verify a traveler’s identity by matching a live scan with passport biometric data and CBP’s Traveler Verification Service. This eliminates the need for passengers to present a physical passport unless additional screening is required, significantly improving speed, efficiency, and passenger flow.

The system supports families and group travel, including children, and requires only a brief interaction with a CBP officer before travelers proceed directly to their departure gate. The process is designed to reduce wait times and allow passengers more time prior to boarding.

EPP does not require advance registration or an application and is automatically available to U.S. citizens departing Aruba. The technology is already in use at other international airports, including Orlando International Airport and Dublin Airport.

Jurgen Benschop, Chief Operations Officer of Aruba Airport Authority N.V., stated that the introduction of EPP marks an important milestone, especially as the airport continues construction under its Gateway 2030 expansion. He emphasized the authority’s commitment to innovation, efficiency, and service excellence.

CBP Aruba Pre-Clearance Port Director Wendell A. Roberts noted that the technology enhances security while providing a modern and expedited departure experience for U.S. citizens. Meanwhile, iProov CEO Andrew Bud highlighted that the system allows departing visitors, including families and those needing assistance, to enjoy a faster and more relaxed travel experience.

With the majority of Aruba’s visitors coming from the United States, the introduction of Enhanced Passenger Processing represents another step toward improving the overall passenger journey and strengthening airport operations, particularly during peak travel periods.
