A serious traffic accident in Cumana injures several people late Thursday night on the Santa Cruz–Oranjestad road, police reported.
Around 10:00 p.m., a major collision occurred near the intersection close to Bon Dia Supermarket. Following numerous emergency calls, multiple police patrols and ambulances — including the Rapid Responder unit from ImSan — were dispatched to the scene.
Upon arrival, officers found vehicles blocking the roadway. The crash involved a light-colored Toyota Vitz hatchback, a dark-colored Kia Rio hatchback, and a white Mazda 2 hatchback.
Witnesses told police that the Kia Rio was traveling uphill and failed to yield to the Toyota Vitz. The impact caused the Toyota Vitz to be pushed off the road into the path of the Mazda 2.
Paramedics transported those needing more advanced treatment to the hospital. The driver of the Toyota Vitz was checked at the scene and did not require hospitalization.
Officials temporarily closed the road, directing traffic from Oranjestad to Santa Cruz and from Hooiberg to Cumana through alternative routes. Authorities reported considerable material damage to the vehicles involved.
Police continue to investigate the cause of the collision.
