San Nicolas, Aruba – March 4, 2025
A powerful new movement has taken root in San Nicolas with the official launch of the Sunrise City Coconut Collective (SC3)—a nonprofit organization dedicated to community transformation through collaboration, capacity-building, and grassroots empowerment.

Held at Scol di Arte, the launch event united community leaders, entrepreneurs, artists, and social changemakers, all committed to driving forward a brighter, more resilient future for Aruba’s Sunrise City.

A Vision for Empowerment and Self-Reliance

SC3 is more than just a community organization—it’s a catalyst for change. At its core, SC3 envisions an empowered San Nicolas, where residents can tap into tools, opportunities, and skill-building resources to achieve social and economic growth.

The initiative seeks to build bridges between local businesses, artists, and community advocates, cultivating a shared vision of innovation, sustainability, and inclusive development.

Key Focus Areas: A Holistic Approach to Community Growth

SC3’s work is guided by seven key societal pillars, each essential to shaping a vibrant and self-sufficient community:

  • Governance & Politics
  • Family & Societal Affairs
  • Economy & Business
  • Education & Knowledge
  • Religion & Spirituality
  • Media & Communication
  • Culture, Arts & Entertainment

By engaging in each of these spheres, SC3 aims to drive systemic transformation that benefits both San Nicolas and Aruba at large.

Mission: Creating Opportunities Through the COCONUTS Framework

At the heart of SC3’s mission is the belief in uplifting the community through opportunity, knowledge, and collaboration. The organization’s unique acronym—COCONUTS—represents the spirit of self-reliance, creativity, and resourcefulness that underpins its mission.

SC3 is actively connecting residents with programs and projects that foster economic empowerment, cultural revitalization, and civic engagement.

Meet the Leaders Behind the Movement

SC3 is driven by a passionate team of local visionaries and change agents:

  • Zuleyka Lake-Winklaar – President
  • Indira Burke – Vice-President
  • Ivor Lee – Secretary
  • Erika Dedier – Treasurer
  • Tammy Richardson – Board Member
  • Sonny Richardson – Board Member
  • Tabitha Smith-Heemstadt – Board Member

This leadership team is committed to launching innovative, inclusive initiatives that address real community needs and build long-term capacity for change.

What’s Next for SC3?

Looking ahead, SC3 plans to partner with local thought leaders, creatives, and influencers in each of its key focus areas to co-develop impactful programs. These efforts aim to enhance social mobility, cultural pride, and economic prosperity, making San Nicolas a model for community-led transformation in Aruba.

A new era has begun in San Nicolas—one rooted in purpose, progress, and the power of people working together.
