Aruba Police Urge Drivers to Keep Right on Two-Way Roads in 2025

The Aruba Police Force has issued a public reminder urging motorists to stay in the right-hand lane on all two-way roads, as part of efforts to improve road safety across the island in 2025.

With a rise in traffic violations, the police are emphasizing the importance of following road rules, particularly when driving on major roads such as the Green Corridor, Avenida Nelson Oduber, and Watty Vos Boulevard. Several drivers have recently been fined for staying in the left lane unnecessarily, especially on Avenida Nelson Oduber, formerly Sasakiweg.

According to the police, drivers may only use the left lane for overtaking or for making left exits at roundabouts. Once the maneuver is complete, drivers must return to the right lane promptly.

Authorities clarified that Aruba’s traffic law does not recognize the concept of a “fast lane” or “slow lane”—a misconception that often leads to unsafe road behavior.

One example cited involved a driver who was observed cruising in the left lane between two roundabouts without overtaking any vehicle. If stopped, the driver could have received a significant fine, as such actions violate Aruba’s traffic code.

The police continue to stress that road safety is a shared responsibility. Adhering to road rules helps ensure a safer environment for all.
