On Sunday, Parliamentarian Evelyn Wever-Croes attended the premiere of Awo, Now, Nu at Fort Zoutman, a documentary exploring the impact of the legacy of slavery on Caribbean youth. Featuring voices from Aruba, Bonaire, Curaçao, Saba, Sint Maarten, and Sint Eustatius, the film offers a contemporary perspective on this critical historical issue.

Wever-Croes called the documentary deeply impactful, stressing the importance of understanding the past to build a successful future. She lamented the absence of the government at the event but reaffirmed her administration’s commitment to addressing Aruba’s history.

Roland Colastica, representing the Commemoration Committee of the Legacy of Slavery, expressed gratitude to Wever-Croes, former Minister Xiomara Maduro, and the entire production team. The event highlights the need for greater awareness and education on Aruba’s heritage among young people.
