ORANJESTAD — Parliamentarian Arends-Reyes is urging the Tourism Product Enhancement Fund (TPEF) to present its annual financial report and to clarify its long-term vision. “We have formally requested the annual accounts of TPEF as well as a clear outline of the Ministry of Tourism’s vision,” he said.

The AVP representative emphasized the need for a critical yet constructive approach to understanding how TPEF influences and develops Aruba’s tourism product. He stressed the importance of knowing the direction and strategy for the future, particularly requesting Minister Cicilia to provide greater clarity on the plans and goals to improve tourism on the island, with special attention on infrastructure such as bridges.

Governance and Oversight

Arends-Reyes also highlighted concerns about the composition of the TPEF board and the steps being taken to ensure successful implementation of its projects and the maintenance of existing facilities. “It’s not just about knowing who executes the projects, but also about how continuous maintenance and evaluation are guaranteed,” he said.

Projects and Sustainability

He emphasized that it’s vital to evaluate whether projects meet their objectives and are maintained sustainably. According to Arends-Reyes, TPEF’s function should not be limited to short-term projects; a long-term plan is necessary to ensure the lasting benefits of investments.

Measuring Success

Therefore, he requested a plan that includes clear methods to measure and evaluate success. The AVP remains committed to closely monitoring the use of public funds, promoting transparency, accountability, and good governance to secure a sustainable future for Aruba’s tourism sector.
