Aruba is more than just beautiful beaches and sunny skies—it’s packed with fascinating facts that make this Caribbean gem even more unique. Here are seven fun and surprising things you might not know about Aruba:

  1. Close to Venezuela: On clear days, you can see Venezuela from Aruba! The island is only 30 kilometers (18.6 miles) away from the South American coast.

  2. Colorful Capital: Aruba’s capital city, Oranjestad, is home to around 35,000 people—about a third of the island’s population. The city’s architecture is Dutch-inspired but painted in bold Caribbean colors, giving it a unique look.

  3. “One Happy Island”: Aruba’s official slogan is “One Happy Island,” and it truly lives up to it. The locals are known for their friendliness and positive vibes.

  4. Mild Temperatures: The lowest temperature ever recorded on Aruba is a pleasant 19°C (66.2°F), which shows how consistently warm the weather is.

  5. Sunniest in the Caribbean: Aruba boasts more sunny days than any other island in the Caribbean, making it a dream destination year-round.

  6. Ancient Inhabitants: The island’s first known residents were the Caiquetio Indians, part of the Arawak tribe from Venezuela. They settled along the coast in areas now known as Malmok and Palm Beach.

  7. Clean Tap Water: Aruba has some of the best drinking water in the world. It’s safe, tastes great, and is gentle on your skin and hair when you shower.
