San Nicolas police staffing has fallen from roughly 60 officers to about 18, police union president Lito Lacle told 24ora after visiting the station, according to its October 19 report.
Union hears workload concerns
Lacle said the union visited to speak with station leadership and officers about their concerns. He described the staffing change as a reduction of almost 70 percent and said officers were working extensive overtime to cover shifts.
Additional duties add pressure
The report said officers also look after people held in cells because dedicated custodial personnel are absent. Lacle warned about the pressure on officers’ physical and mental well-being and the risk of burnout.
The staffing figures and workload assessment are attributed to the union’s account. The report did not announce new appointments or a staffing recovery timetable.
