Aruba slavery research forms part of a heritage cooperation agreement signed on October 16 by Fundacion NAAM and the committee responsible for commemorating the history of slavery, according to NoticiaCla. The partnership is intended to run through 2029.
Publication inventory covers six islands
NoticiaCla reported that the partners will inventory publications about slavery in Aruba, Bonaire, Curaçao, Saba, Sint Eustatius and Sint Maarten. The work is intended to identify gaps in available information and strengthen research informed by local perspectives.
Digital access and a 2027 programme
The agreement also covers a digital platform bringing together research, publications, audiovisual productions and artworks, the report said. Another project is the 2027 programme “100 Aña Ompi Elis”, dedicated to Elis Juliana.
Recorded histories form part of preservation work
A pilot project will seek to improve access to the Zikinzá collection. According to NoticiaCla, the collection contains approximately 1,400 recordings of stories and songs made by Elis Juliana and Paul Brenneker from the 1950s onward.
The stated aim is to preserve and share the material for education, research and future generations. The report describes planned cooperation and access projects, rather than announcing that the digital platform or collection-access work is already complete.
