Tour Operator Uni met Friday with staff of the Ministry of Infrastructure, Energy and Telecommunications to discuss GPS-based fleet monitoring for UTVs and 4×4 vehicles, calling for equal rules for all users.
The meeting, held at Cocolishi on the initiative of ABC Tours, took place in what was described as a very positive atmosphere. SETAR presented a GPS-based fleet management system that records routes, speed and entry into protected areas, and explained the latest advances and trends in GPS technology.
First installation at ABC Tours
Two days earlier, on Wednesday, October 14, SETAR visited ABC Tours’ head office to install the first unit as part of a pilot project to evaluate the system in practice and provide recommendations for improvement. ABC Tours founder and Managing Director Marvin Kelly received the SETAR representatives; SETAR confirmed ABC Tours is the first tour operator to install its platform.
Gabriel de Mey, Operations Manager of ABC Tours, represented Tour Operator Uni at the Friday meeting. ABC Tours has used GPS tracking since the technology became commercially available in Aruba, and de Mey explained how the system works in practice and the proactive measures the company takes to ensure employees follow existing rules. He also gave SETAR feedback on the data most valuable to operators.
Equal rules for all
Tour Operator Uni is calling for the same rules to apply to all users of motorized tours, 24ora reported on October 17.
