AVP parliamentarian Clifford Heyliger has stressed that the Investment and Development Fund bill being debated in Aruba’s Parliament this week must deliver improvements the public can actually feel, with investment in housing, infrastructure and welfare translating into concrete improvements in citizens’ daily lives.
Speaking during his Thursday intervention, Heyliger criticized the opposition for using the word “crisis” at every opportunity while, he said, ignoring the consequences of decisions taken during their own time in government. He pointed to BBO increases from 3% to 6% and then to 7%, as well as the introduction of BBO at the border.
Heyliger questioned how many social homes were built during the previous seven-and-a-half-year government, and raised the poor state of infrastructure at De Vuist in San Nicolas, along with bus stops lacking roofs, seating or shade.
He also challenged the opposition on the Eagle LNG project, the halt of hedging at WEB, and the creation of Aruba Renewable Energy N.V. (ARE N.V.).
