Aruba Shriners child support includes U.S. burn treatment and a can-tab recycling drive that funds wheelchairs, prosthetics and crutches.
Burn Treatment Available Through Shriners
Aruba Shriners Club says it can help children from the island access specialized burn treatment in the United States when needed, according to 24ora. Club president Stanley Brown shared the information during the Aruba Fire Department's Fire Prevention Week open day.
Medical Care Provided Without Cost
Brown said an eligible child can travel with a parent or family member while specialized treatment is covered without cost to the family. The source did not describe eligibility criteria, referral steps or the U.S. medical facilities used by the program.
Can Tabs Help Fund Mobility Equipment
The Aruba Shriners child support work also includes collecting aluminium can tabs for recycling. Emilio van der Linde explained that proceeds can help children who need equipment such as wheelchairs, prosthetics or crutches. The report did not state how much has been raised.
Community Asked to Contribute
Residents can contact Aruba Shriners Club through its Facebook page to arrange collection of donated tabs or deliver them directly. The club used the fire-prevention event to explain its services and encourage participation. Its board consists of five people under Brown's leadership, 24ora reported.
