PPA reaffirmed support for Otmar Oduber as the former minister pursues cassation, while saying it respects Aruba's justice institutions.
Party responds after appellate ruling
The board of Partido Patriotico di Aruba said it considered a public response necessary after the appellate court's judgment in the case involving former minister Otmar Oduber. According to the party, its board spoke with Oduber after the ruling and gave him two weeks to decide whether to continue through the legal avenues available to him. Oduber has since announced that he will pursue cassation before the Supreme Court in the Netherlands.
PPA distinguishes respect for court from legal challenge
PPA said it respects Aruba's rule-of-law institutions and the appellate judgment. At the same time, the party argued that respect for a court ruling does not remove a person's right to contest that decision through the lawful appeals process. The statement said PPA support for Otmar Oduber extends to his right to seek cassation and present his legal arguments through the established procedure.
Party cites Oduber's electoral support
The party also separated the legal proceedings from Oduber's political record. It noted that he received 2,419 personal votes in Aruba's December 2024 election, while PPA received 3,538 votes and returned to Parliament after a 20-year absence. PPA said it would follow the next stage of the case closely and keep its supporters and the wider Aruba public informed. The statement emphasized that the party was not asking for privilege or immunity, but was defending the right to use the legal safeguards available under the law.
