A court has annulled the suspension of Joselin Croes from her role as director of Aruba’s diplomatic office in the Netherlands, finding that the government decision was insufficiently careful and supported, according to a September 28 report by 24ora.
Court cites shortcomings in the suspension process
Croes has worked for the Country of Aruba since September 1, 2018, and was appointed in December 2023 to a five-year term as director of the cabinet of Aruba’s minister plenipotentiary in the Netherlands, commonly known as Arubahuis.
The government removed management, finance, and representation duties from Croes in October 2025. Access to Arubahuis property was denied at the end of December, and a formal suspension took effect on March 18, 2026, the source reported.
According to 24ora’s account of the ruling, the court said the government had not properly given Croes an opportunity to respond to the specific accusations before imposing a measure that could seriously affect her position, authority, and reputation. The court also found that the stated need for an ongoing suspension had not been adequately demonstrated.
Provisional request rejected as no longer necessary
Because the Joselin Croes suspension itself was annulled, the court rejected her separate request for provisional relief on the ground that there was no longer a legal interest in a temporary measure.
The government was ordered to pay Afl. 2,100 in legal costs: Afl. 1,400 for the objection proceeding and Afl. 700 for the provisional-measure proceeding, according to the source.
Appeal window remains open
The parties have 30 days to appeal to the civil-service appeals court. The available report did not say whether either side intends to appeal or describe the immediate arrangements for leadership at Arubahuis following the judgment.
