Aruba abandoned vehicle removals are moving into an enforcement phase in Oranjestad after a government-led task force completed an inventory of neglected vehicles on public land and roads.
Oranjestad inventory clears the way for removals
Maikel Gomes of Bureau City Inspector told Diario that the Ministry of General Affairs, the Aruba Police Force, Bureau City Inspector and other government partners created the task force to address the problem. He said the Oranjestad inventory is now complete and identified vehicles are expected to be removed during the coming days.
The operation follows months of analysis requested by the government. Gomes described the volume of complaints received by both inspectors and police as serious, noting that some abandoned vehicles obstruct public roads and interfere with traffic.
Owners face towing and storage costs
Vehicles selected for removal will be taken by tow truck to a storage facility. According to the report, towing and storage expenses will be charged to the vehicle owner.
Authorities are again urging owners to remove abandoned vehicles from public areas themselves. Police are expected to arrange removal when owners do not act.
Operation is expected to expand beyond the capital
The first phase is beginning in Oranjestad, but the task force intends to continue in other Aruba neighborhoods. The stated goal is to reduce road obstructions and improve the cleanliness and order of shared public spaces.
