A local report has highlighted a number of deteriorating and abandoned homes in San Nicolas while many Aruba residents continue to struggle to find housing.
Vacant properties documented in Weg Fontein
24ora reporter Edward del Orbe documented several vacant homes in the Weg Fontein area and said similar properties can be found elsewhere in San Nicolas. Some appeared to be in advanced stages of deterioration.
The report connected the abandoned San Nicolas homes with wider concerns about housing availability, neighborhood appearance, public health and safety.
Private ownership limits intervention
The source noted that the government has previously said it cannot intervene directly in some privately owned properties without the required authorization. The report called for a review of possible legal mechanisms, but did not identify a new government decision or confirmed redevelopment plan.
